Cats Stealing Hearts and Souls Since 12,000 B.C.

Nothing like cat love 🖤 it’s no wonder Egyptians held them in high regard for the fertility, power and justice they believed this species to possess. They also killed venomous snakes for the pharaohs so they could walk around barefooted with no fear. 🐍 In many religions they are revered as guardians of the underworld. In the late 1880s, more than 200,000 mummified cats were found in the cemetery of Beni Hasan in central Egypt. Cats were embalmed with families or family members that died to serve their protective role even in death. In Norse mythology the Goddess Freyja of love, family, fertility, war, wealth, divination and magic had a giant chariot pulled by two giant grey cats that were gifts from Thor himself. #chrishemsworth
Villagers would leave gifts for these cats in order to convince Freyja to visit their town or home.
